Church of God History
Richard G. Spurling and Son CHURCH HISTORY
A Brief History of the Church of God

In 1886 in a crude meeting house on the Tennessee-North Carolina border, the Chrurch of God traces it's roots. This small group of sincere Christians, with a deep desire for a closer relationship with Christ, realizing the futility of reforming their own churches, they established a new church. One whose objective would be to restore sound scriptural Bible teachings. A Church that encouraged deeper consecration and promote evangelism with Christian service. It was in the Barney Creek Meeting House some 21 years later that the permanently established Church of God was founded.
Church of God History
From this humble beginning has grown one of the most influential wouldwide Pentecostal denominations. The Church of God has been a distinctive movement for the last 120 years. The Church of God has been a movement focused on communicating the gospel in power of the Holy Spirit. It is a world-wide membership of over 6 million with a presence in nearly 150 countries. Our leaders are recognized as some of the most respected Pentecostal leaders of today.

It is the call of the Church of God to communicate the gospel around the world. Congregations are experiencing the fire of the Holy Spirit today more than ever. Reports of revivals where hundereds are saved and filled with the Holy Ghost are frequent and often. The Church is called to discipleship and prayer. It is a call of commitment. It is the call to bring in the lost of this world and guide them to the Kingdom of God.

For further information on the history of the Church of God we recommend reading "Like A Mighty Army." By Dr. Charles W. Conn.
